February 2007 commemorations: details now available

Monday 19 February 2007 will be the 65th anniversary of the first Japanese bombing raids on Darwin, Australia.

The Darwin City Council will host the 65th anniversary commemoration ceremony on the Darwin Harbour’s shore. The Council is also organising tours of local museums and a trip to Adelaide River — see 65th Anniversary page on this web site for more details and contact Maxine Dowley (phone 08 8930 0684 or email m.dowley@darwin.nt.gov.au) to register your interest in attending.

Commemoration ceremonies will be held in South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria — see the list of 2007 ceremonies on this web site, plus how you can organise an event in your local area. Letters to newspapers, local MPs and local radio stations are an excellent way for you to help raise awareness about this important part of Australian history.

    I returned our acceptance of our attendance at the 65th anniversary but did not keep any details of the events.. Could you pleasr email me a copy of the events of the event Thank you Kevin Bray

    During my stay in Darwin for the 65th anniversary,there was some film taken of myself and a mate while visiting the army museum…can you tell me if the film was ever completed and if I could get one

    Suggest you contact Maxine Dowley at the Darwin City Council and ask her if you could get copies of the DVDs they produced of the event.

    With regard to the February 19 Commemorations, reports of most ceremonies are included in our March Newsletter. Copies of this newsletter are posted to all members quarterly, eg, March, June, September and December.

    Contributions of articles and photos of veterans and their activities pertaining to the Defence of Darwin will be appreciated.
